is an offer from Bastli for all ETH students. It offers a small but well-equipped workshop, mainly for electronics work. But we are also equipped for simpler mechanical work and creative work. The terms makerspace and fab lab probably describe us quite well.
Equipment
Soldering equipment
We have various types of soldering stations as well as a hot air station for SMD work. Binoculars make working with small components easier. One workstation has ESD equipment and a pneumatic solder paste dispenser. Stencils for applying the solder paste can be made with our stencil cutter.
If larger boards need to be soldered, the reflow oven is a good option.
The IR Rework Station can be used to repair defective solder joints under BGA components (e.g. XBOX360 Ring of Death).
Measuring station
Several digital oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, laboratory power supplies, multimeters, function generators, LCR meters and much more as well as computers are available. Adjustable and isolating transformers as well as differential probes for mains-operated devices are also available.
Development tools
We have various programming devices and debuggers for the common microcontroller families AVR, STM32, PIC as well as a universal programmer that can read and write most memory modules.
Materials & machines
For excursions into mechanics, we have a small stock of materials and a basic set of machines: belt sander, pillar drill, hand drill, jigsaw and Dremel. Compressed air is available.
Tools
In addition to the basic equipment, our tool magazine also contains cordless screwdrivers with special bits, special screwdrivers, housing opening tools and crimping pliers.
Creative & crafts
With our stencil cutter, any shape can be cut into foil and vinyl. We also have a laminator, a wide variety of paints, varnishes and spray paints and an airbrush gun.
Spare parts warehouse & grab bag
We always receive (partially) defective assemblies and devices from which we remove and sort the most valuable parts. Therefore, there is a very good chance that you will find a part you need somewhere with us. Be it a rare component, a defective mechanical part, a PC component or a power supply, after a long search you can usually find something suitable.
We also have various grab bags with new reject components that are given away free of charge.
3D printers
Our 3D printers have their own information page as a central offering.
PCB milling machine
We have an LPKF S61 which can mill double-sided PCBs. It’s however only usable after a lengthy introduciton. Please contact us if you’re interested.
